Character Info
Character's Name: Gladion
Character's Canon: Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon (Moon, Female Protag, chose Rowlett)
Character's Age: Mid-teens (14-15)
Canon Point: Post Game (Pokemon League Challenge)
Background/History: Bulbapedia Page
Strengths:
☾ Emotional Connection with Pokemon: Gladion is shown to have a strong connection with his Pokemon team, especially with Sivally whom he evolved from Type:Null (which requires high Friendship in game mechanics) and even named himself. This goes beyond Sivally/Type:Null three of his six are Pokemon that require high Friendship to evolve and all are fully evolved by this point. His interactions with other humans will likely leave something to be desired; when it comes to other people he's aloof and standoffish, rarely if ever getting close to anyone that isn't family (and even then he holds them at arms length to say the least) and even being unwilling to use the word 'friend' in any capacity. With Pokemon, though, he clearly cares deeply for them, for their well being and desires to at the very least aid the ones he can, when he can. For all that his mother fell apart with her own issues he can agree that she had the right idea with the Aether Foundation's credo of aiding, healing and rehabilitating Pokemon that have been injured or mistreated. His Pokemon are his partners, yes, but they are the closest thing he had to friendship for the two years he was living away from home in a hotel, and possibly even before then.
☾ Empathy: He, like Lillie, understands that Pokemon are living, feeling creatures that do not deserve to be tortured or abused and while he claims she "feels their pain" more than he does he is still known to be protective of them and will go after those who harm Pokemon. His empathy for fellow humans is less than it is for Pokemon, but even he cares about his family and eventually comes to care about the protag and their friend Hau to the point where he would come to their defense just as quickly. He refuses to use the word 'friend' but shows that he respects them both, even Hau who he considered "annoying" early on. Despite how his near constant glare and refusal to smile, he is not as cold or uncaring as his outward appearance might make him seem.
☾ Expert Pokemon Trainer: Though he doesn't win every battle and has yet to get as strong as the current Alola League Champion, he has shown a lot of growth and has come to understand that it is the connect between trainer and partner that brings out the best in both. He even left to Kanto for a month to train further and enhance his own skills. Being the son of the President of the Aether Fountain, Gladion never went through the Island Trials like many other young trainers but he is more than capable of taking on those who have and could probably even at least give an Island Kahuna a run for their money. He even managed to return home with a fully evolved Kantoan starter (in this case Venusaur), of which would have had to evolve twice in roughly a month or so.
Weaknesses:
☾ Hyper-Focused: Though he has stepped back on this quite a bit since reconciling with his family, Gladion spent most of his time through the game being rather intently focused on getting "stronger"; not for the sake of being a strong trainer, but in order to deal with the Ultra Beasts and find a way to protect his mother and sister from them and other dangers. There is a part of him that still longs to be a strong as he possibly can be, hence why he left for Kanto for a month to continue training despite his already formidable skills, but his goals are much less singularly focused these days. That said, it's still very much a family trait as evidenced by Lusamine becoming so intently determined to find Ultra Beasts. Beyond that, it can easily cause him to lose his usually calm demeanor and jump in to situations without thinking clearly, driven more by the emotions of the moment. Thankfully he doesn't stay like this for long and will even apologize for going too far if the situation calls for it.
☾ Attitude: In line with most teenagers around his age, Lusamine's ever growing obsession over Ultra Wormholes and Ultra Beasts turned Gladion in to the epitome of rebellious teenager. Running away with Type:Null, dressing in black and red (a direct antithesis to the white/pale yellow/pale blue that his mother and sister wore), even going so far as becoming "Team Skull Enforcer". Granted most, if not all of his actions were all for the sake of finding a way to save Lusamine from herself and protect his sister. This was eventually accomplished within the events of the game, but even new habits die hard and while he's capable of smiling and showing more than just grumpiness and irritation the chances of him returning to how he was as a small child is pretty much nil.
☾ Emotional (human) Distance: Gladion would be very hard pressed to consider anyone a friend. Even to the protag at the end he says "We're not friends, but we're not enemies either". He's not likely to approach someone first, at least not with the intent of turning strangers into friends, but he also doesn't ignore the people that have come into his life, either. At the very least he's willing to admit and show respect to those that have earned it from him, and after a long enough period of time he can at least tolerate being around others and admit companionship.
Powers/Abilities: Gladion has no real abilities of his own. As with most of the human population of the Pokemon universe he is an average teenager with high intelligence and not much else. It can be said, though, that he does possess a strong connection to Pokemon, especially to Sivally, the Chimera Pokemon he took from Aether Paradise. He can't hear them, but he's in tune with them enough to understand them even non-verbally.
Other Noteworthy Traits:Does Jo-Jo posing count as a noteworthy trait?
Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
◓ Hoodie, undershirt, pants, shoes, and hip pouch
◓ Handful of potions (Hyper Potion, Max Potion, Full Restore)
◓ Stack of Memories for Sivally
◓ Six Pokeballs for Sivally, Crobat, Zoroark, Porygon-Z, Lucario and Venasuar.
◓ Z-Ring, and DarkiniumZ
Color: #D1D119
Yellow is considered an "attention getting" color, representing things that are warm, happy, cheerful. Naturally these are the things that pretty much the exact opposite of Gladion, or at the very least how he seems to be now. However his mother, Lusamine, is shown as someone who does enjoy attention and while she had them in her life, raised her children very much in her own image. Yellow isn't so much a reflection of Gladion now as it is of his past and where/who he came from, that their relationship after so long is on the mend.
Sample: TDM threads
[ OPTIONAL ] World Aspect: I would love to see something from the Pokemon universe in Awash, even if it was just one or two basic Pokemon/eggs that other characters could raise and partner with. I understand why it might not be feasible since there's so many but I'm totally up for discussing details if it can be worked in.
